CATIA is Dassault Systèmes’ flagship solution for product development. As a key component of collaborative PLM, it enables manufacturers to author their future products and to support all industrial design processes, from the pre-project phase through detailed design, analysis, simulation, assembly, and maintenance.

The modular CATIA product line is designed to meet customer needs in product development activities including style and form design, mechanical design and equipment and systems engineering, managing digital mock-up, machining, analysis, and simulation. CATIA products are based on the open, scalable V5 architecture.

By enabling enterprises to reuse product design knowledge and accelerate development cycles, CATIA helps companies speed up their responses to market needs. Since 1999, the market has widely adopted its digital mock-up process to make it the most commonly used product development system in the world.

The Year 2003 saw the introduction of two new CATIA releases (V5R11 and V5R12). Examples of new products and features include full-scale coverage of functional, logical and detailed design for composite parts, major enhancements for the design and the management of electrical equipments, new 5-Axis helix machining operation for turbo-machinery parts, and significant improvements in sheet metal parts design.
